Marianna Foldvari  DPharm Sci, PhD
CRC Chair Bionanotechnology & Nanomedicine
School of Pharmacy, University of Waterloo

Dr. Foldvari’s research program focuses on the development of intelligent delivery systems and biomolecular devices. The main objectives are to investigate the fundamental physicochemical properties of delivery systems and to use these discoveries to develop new, non-invasive technologies to deliver and ultra-specifically target therapeutic agents into the body to diseased tissues. Her scientific vision is to advance the field of bionanotechnology by developing increasingly intelligent and reliable diagnostic and therapeutic systems. Dr. Foldvari’s research interests specifically include non-invasive drug delivery, gene therapy and pharmaceutical development of nano-enabled products. This research will lead to the development of individual health monitoring methods, including systems that serve individual patient needs for early diagnosis, disease pre-onset monitoring, functionality monitoring and treatment option identification.

She is Associate Editor of Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology and Medicine, and an Editorial Board Member of Current Drug Delivery, the Journal of Bionanoscience and the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding. She served as Board Member for Genome Prairie, was a Member of the Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister on Science and Technology, and was one of the Founders of the Canadian Society of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Dr. Foldvari has received the YWCA Women of Distinction Award and the Sabex Award of Innovation. She has authored more than 100 papers and 70 conference presentations and is the inventor on 14 patents. She founded two spin-off companies that focus on nanomedicine product development to commercialize technologies that she and her research team have developed.
